KINIKILIG AKO!

Salamat kapatid! 🙂

THE HEIRS. A somewhat realistic fictional series. A story about a rich family with complicated lives and relationships. A story about different aspects in life. Family. Love. Wealth. Greed.

In this series, I have realized a lot of things.

FAMILY. LOVE. Everyone needs a family. A biological family that is complete – father, mother, child(ren). Unfortunately, some people grew up in a complicated family. Kim Tan portrayed by Lee Min Ho is an illegitimate child of a wealthy family. Kumbaga anak siya ng isang kabit. Cha Eun-sang grew up with her mute mother and has a less fortunate life. Rachel Yoo, fiancè of Kim Tan grew up in a separated family. And Choi Young-do grew up longing for his mother.

Pina-realize saken ng series na toh na ang favored ko pala. I grew up knowing and living with Mom and Dad na hindi ko naappreciate nung kabataan ko pa (bata pa naman ako ah!). Hindi ko sila ma-appreciate dati. Di ko kasi sila close. Parati akong pinapagalitan. Parati akong dinidisiplina. Parati akong umiiyak. But then I realized my family did that because they love me.

You don’t choose your family. They are God’s gift to you as you are to them. -Desmond Tutu

When I was a kid, I wished that they were not my parents. I wished a family who just gives me what I want. To end up having everything I want. Hindi pala family ang hinahanap ko. Genie ang hinahanap ko. Selfishness enraged me. Me, myself, and I.

Nakakatuwa nga eh. My family didn’t give up on me. Up until now. I am a no butihing anak. I am no ulirang anak. But one thing is for sure, at the time God impressed me about the importance and significance of a family, I never stopped caring for them. I never stopped praying for them. For them to know who Jesus is in their lives. For them to realize that everything is temporary and they need Jesus in their lives.

Ephesians 6:1-4 “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.  “Honor your father and mother” (this is the first commandment with a promise), “that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land.”  Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.”

They know what they’re doing. HONOR them. RESPECT them. And most especially, LOVE them.

WEALTH. GREED. The plot of the story revolves around being a part of the a large Korean conglomerate. Wherein you will do anything and everything to get a big share. One of the last scenes of the series is when the owner of the company who was ill was rushed to the ICU and was in comatose. His legal wife immediately called for a motion to remove him as the CEO of the company. She even called for part-owners to be on her side. Greed enraged her character. She even told Kim Tan “Welcome to the world of greed. Of hatred. Of selfishness.” She knew all along that money matters most. She never even considered her family.

As the Bible says,

For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. -1 Timothy 6:10

Money is not the issue. By all means have all the money and bless others. It is always, always a heart issue.

When family and money seems complicated, always remember not to give up on your family.

Just recently, my family had a financial issue. This may seem confidential but would like to share it as a testimony on how good God is. 🙂

We needed to pay a HUGE amount of money so as a family member to be spared from what she did. We had a choice to help her or not. We had a choice not paying for her debts. But because we are a family and we love her, we endure all financial pains. Utang dito. Utang doon. Iyak dito. Iyak doon. We prayed earnestly for a miracle. I even texted all the prayer warriors I know to stand with me in faith that this too shall pass. Suffering was evident.

But God reminded me – to be still and know that He is God. He is in control of the situation. He knows what He is doing. He let that happen and for sure He won’t allow things to happen if we cannot endure it. What an amazing God we have!

We never gave up on her. We are her family. We endured the hardships. WE TRUSTED GOD.

Parang si Jesus lang. He never gave up on us. He whole heartedly accepted to be crucified on the Cross for you and me. During His walk to Calvary, He thought of us.

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. -Romans 6:23

I am a sinner. You are a sinner. We all deserve death. But God has a gift – eternal life. Eternal life that can only be given when you surrender your life to Jesus.

Imagine heaven with Jesus and all the choirs of angels singing praises and worship to God! If only you would let Jesus be the driver of your life. If only you let Jesus be your Lord and Savior of your life.

I don’t deserve eternal life. Who am I to be worthy of it. I’m full of shame. Full of greed. Full of pride. But Jesus took away all of them by being crucified on that Cross.

As the song goes,

I’ll never know how much it costs. To see my sins upon that Cross.

I dint deserve that.

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith —and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God not by works, so that no one can boast. -Ephesians 2:8-9

It is not about me. It is about what Jesus did on that Cross. He never gave up on us.

Grace changes everything.

Think about it. Do you deserve heaven? Or do you deserve eternal fire?

Family. Love. Wealth. Greed. All of these are evident in this world. In reality, you will experience suffering. But what amazes us is that God is in control. He knows. He understands. And He will redeem you in the right time. Not our time but in God’s time.

How will we respond? Trust Jesus. That’s all.

The heirs. We are all heirs in the kingdom of God. You just have to surrender your life to Him. 🙂
